We didn't even know a press conference ever took place, but obviously it did. Thank you, Internet! (And more specifically, Eyes on Cinema.) Of the planned omnibus film directed by Bergman and Fellini, nothing came out save for Bergman's fascinating, unpublished manuscript, still waiting to be ... well, something (published? made into a film? or a stage play, perhaps?).

It certainly deserves it (and the story features SM sex and lesbianism, too.)

Autumn Sonata Season

You can tell by all stagings of Autumn Sonata. If you're quick, you can catch the ones in Stockholm and Perugia (Seoul is too late, I'm afraid). Also, the celebrated Argentinian production of last year will be on a Spanish tour, for example in Barcelona in November.

Fun fact: Bergman is sometimes considered a little gloomy. And since autumn is often regarded as the perfect season for this mood, one would think it to be featured a lot in Bergman. However, Autumn Sonata is the only of Bergman's works where the season occurs in the title. To be compared with another, which have several: Summer with Monika, Summer Interlude, Smiles of a Summer Night.

Swedish poet Erik Axel Karlfeldt was right:

Nu är den stolta vår utsprungen,
den vår de svaga kalla höst.

Now proud and glorious spring is here,
dubbed as autumn by the weak.

– Höstens vår / Autumn's spring, 1902.

Among Larsson's many earlier achievements, we count to no less than four stagings of three Bergman plays: Autumn Sonata and Scenes From a Marriage at the Royal Dramatic Theatre, and two productions of Fanny and Alexander, in Aarhus (which he was heading at the time) and the Royal Dramatic Theatre. They were all great successes.

Our heartfelt congratulations to Stefan and the Betty Nansen Theatre!

That is, the annual awards recognising achievement in theatre. And this year, the magnificent Astrid Meyerfeldt is nominated to the best actress award for Marianne. Very well-deserved! Our heart-felt congratulations to her and the Schauspiel Stuttgart.

And come November, there is one more chance to see her performance.
